    F500 Wanted - Mean Green (1999/2000)

Sorry to hear that you've joined those of us in the stolen Cannondale club. Hope you can find another one in Mean Green but it might be tough. I think that color was only used in 1999 and only on the F500, SV400, and MT2000 (tandem) MTBs. Tropic Green was available on several MTB models that...

    New/old Cannondale tourer

Not much here for NOS MTB cranks other than the FSAs. I have a lot more stuff for road bikes than mountain. Perhaps you just need a new cassette and chain. I might have something that would work depending on what you need.

    New/old Cannondale tourer

OK, 567 was rated for 32T large cog and 39 capacity. https://si.shimano.com/api/publish/storage/pdf/en/si/R430D/SI-R430D-000-00-ENG.pdf

    New/old Cannondale tourer

The RSX shifters were just that much cheaper than the 105s would be the main reason for the T900 being 7 speed. Are you sure about that model number for the RD? Doesn't ring a bell for me and doesn't show up in a search of Shimano tech docs.

    New/old Cannondale tourer

The M591 is rated for a 34T large cog and total capacity of 45. So it should be able to handle the range of gearing on your bike. I don't know what model your present derailleur is but an M560 GS is rated for a 30T large cog and total capacity of 36, with the SGS rated for a 32 large cog and...

    CAAD 4 Identification please

With the exception that it's a CAAD4 frame, that looks like it could be a 2000 Silk Road 400 - which is shown as a CAAD3 in the catalog. The 400 had mostly Tiagra components with Coda crank and brake calipers and CXP11 rims. CAAD4s originally had 1" head tubes (35 mm OD), but later ones may...

    New/old Cannondale tourer

Chain length can affect clearance between the upper jockey pulley and the cogs. A shorter chain should pull the RD forward a bit and prevent the pulley from making contact with the cogs. Be careful to check chain length in big ring/large cog and be sure that the chain is long enough to handle...

    Toe-in on brakes

Hard to say. You could try more toe in or perhaps less. How old are the pads? The outer surface might have hardened. Perhaps file or sand the pads and get down to a better layer.

'Best' years for vintage Cannondale touring bikes?

Did you take the cassette off? 8/9/10 freehub bodies measure about 1.41" (35.8 mm) from the ledge that the cassette seats on to the outside end.

'Best' years for vintage Cannondale touring bikes?

I ran the question by the folks on the Paceline forum. One interesting comment about running the cables from your existing shifters under the tape. I hadn't considered that possibility. https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=272760

'Best' years for vintage Cannondale touring bikes?

Best way to be sure about the hub would be to pull the cassette. If there's a 4.5 mm spacer behind the cassette, the hub should be 8/9/10 compatible. Shimano Claris 8 speed STI is probably your best bet for shifters other than bar ends...

'Best' years for vintage Cannondale touring bikes?

I'm not sure about the rear spacing in 1997 but it is surely 130 or 135 mm (1997 T2000 was 8 speed so at least 130 mm and all touring frames that year were surely spaced the same). Either spacing is fine for 8/9/10/11 speed. Shimano didn't move the STI derailleur cable routing under the bar...

    Frame size, geometry

The problem is that the amount of top tube slope can vary greatly from one frame to another, so seat tube length is not a very good indicator of how a frame will fit. I would try to get a feel for what you like in terms of top tube length and saddle to bar height variation. If you don't have a...

    Frame size, geometry

First step will be to figure out exactly what year and size the frame is, then look at the geometry chart in the catalog. F series frames were generally sized S, M, L, and XL. Some years had a size decal on the seat tube, some were stamped on the underside of the BB shell. I'm looking at the...

    2008 CAAD9 ?

I owned a CAAD9 CX. They were built for the 2009 and 2010 model years. The top model in both years came with the Easton EC90X fork, the lower models with a Cannondale Ultra X. In 2009 it was called the Slice Ultra X. My guess is that you have a 2009 model which could have been produced...

    Chase- Van Halen, HELP!

Thanks Sam. I hope you will stick around. We occasionally get questions that can only be answered by someone who was involved with the company.

I would add that you shouldn't expect to add to the resale value of the bike by repainting it.

    Greetings from VA

I don't think a bike has to have a perfect finish to be desirable, in fact I prefer some flaws just so I don't have to worry about riding a bike while maintaining a perfect paint job. You might have a look at the catalogs. Perhaps there is a paint scheme from the same year that you like...

    Hub cones

I'm just happy that you got the cones that you needed. I searched a bunch of Shimano front hub parts lists, and there aren't many that have the same cone OD. The 600EX cones are the same 10.4 mm OD, but have a different part number.
