...It's a 1986 'st series', From what I can tell all the st's used the same frame and the differences were in component selection when purchased. From the original color I'd say it was probably a st400 but with full dress pannier racks/leather saddle and such it became a st800. This is why I used the dark blue paint as in the 1986 cannondale catalog.

The first Cannondale of a friend. Too small for him, he gave it to me. It was all original with suntour XC comp groupo, and the gripshift, but I made some upgrade for riding it : Ritchey crankset, Flite saddle, Suntour SE Pedersen brakes and mavic ceramic rims…
That color (black-pearl hyper highlight) his one of the most beautiful Cannondale paint job.
The first Cannondale I saw and rode in France, and the birth of a dream. It was in 1988.
In 2006, I met the owner of the bike I rode quite 20 years ago and… he sold it to me.
I could restore it with the original suntour XCD groupo. Only the wheels were upgraded with mavic hubs.
Just finished restoring my 1986 SM700. I bought all new NOS 80's Suntour XC components. Decals from Vintage Cannondale. Waterford Cycles (formerly Paramount Design Group a Schwinn Comapny) did the awesome paint work. The only modern parts are the Brave Machine rims, Moto Digger tires and Azonic DH bars with Brave Machine grips. I kept the old Brooks saddle on it that I had put on it back in '86. I just love these rigid 24/26 Cannondales. I've had many new mountain bikes and kept going back...
