SOLD Front derailleur. Triple front (52/42/30), 8 speed

I still find it hard to believe that a difference of one tooth count between two chainrings can cause a dramatic difference in a derailleur's ability to shift. I admit that I haven't tried the combination. I do have a NOS braze on Sora FD-2303 here, you would need a 31.8 clamp adapter. My...

    R400

The only CAAD3 frame I have is a first year R4000 and it has down tube shifter bosses, so that's where the cable adjusters are located if you have bar mounted shifters. I couldn't tell from the pictures what your frame has but it may only have cable casing stops. In that case what you want is...

What we in the USA would term a "trade in". I just don't understand why the 2199 doesn't appear on the invoice. That would be the starting point here, and the 699 would be deducted from that on the invoice.

SOLD Front derailleur. Triple front (52/42/30), 8 speed

I doubt you will find one that was meant for 30/42/52 and 8 speed. I think your options are 9 speed Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, Dura Ace or 8 speed Claris. I really doubt the ring difference would be a factor. I'd be more concerned about the cable pull. I'm not sure if front cable pull...

    Wanted 1996 M900 or M500 frame 20"

I love my M800 and M900. 1993 and 1995 respectively. Not sure how much difference there is between a 1995 2.8 series frame and a later CAAD frame but I suspect little.

Might have something here. Remind me to look.

    1987 Cannondale SM500

Nice buy at $100 total, frame looks pristine. I think of 1987 as the 24"/26" era but after checking the catalog I see that not all models were sold that way. I can see the drooping Cannondale decal. Did they manage to duplicate that on the other side? I have the same white Turbo that needs...

    R400

I've had a Tiagra 9 FD break also, seems to be a common failure. Pretty sure that any 8/9 speed Shimano road triple FD will work. There's a good chance I have something here but it might be prone to the same failure. You might consider a Claris 8 speed triple FD.

Thanks for posting that. What was the additional 699 for? Looks like the bike was 1500. I wrote down pricing in some catalogs mid 1990s but only on the models I was considering buying.

    Wanted 1996 M900 or M500 frame 20"

The 1998 catalog I have shows the M900 in Storm Blue Fade and Polar Silver. Speed Yellow was the Cannondale yellow circa 1997-8 and Team Yellow was common for a few years later. I don't see yellow in the whole MTB line in the 1998 catalog, except for Speed Yellow forks and swingarms on a...

    R400

It will probably run for quite a while doing that, but there's a reason the spoke broke in the first place. It's usually due to a single spoke being more heavily loaded than the rest.

    CAAD differences

I've never seen any sort of spec for cranks related to chainstay length. Might be an issue with fat bikes or some other frame configuration that I don't know about but standard road frames will take a wide range of cranks/chainrings - from 22 teeth at the low end to 56 at the high end.

    R400

As I understand it, it's fairly common for machine built wheels to break spokes. I assume it's due to excessive tension on a single spoke that concentrates stress in the weak point of the spoke, which is the 90 degree bend at the hub. The spoke may have been overly loaded to compensate for a...

    CAAD differences

I could measure tube diameters and details of the road frames but wouldn't have much information on the MTBs. Most of mine were built before the CAAD series came about. I think all I have is a couple of Headshok hardtail CAAD frames.

    R400

There's a lot more tension on the drive side spokes, so when one breaks the rim goes way out of true. Did the spoke break at the hub?

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

Back on topic, my only ride in recent days was on my 1985 ST400 after parking a truck load of hay inside in anticipation of rain that never happened. We have only had about 18" of rain this year, normal is about 30". Couldn't find a picture of the ST400, will have to take one.

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

CAAD6 and CAAD5 were introduced at the same time (2001 model year). CAAD6 was BB30 and CAAD5 was threaded. CAAD7 and CAAD9 frames were made both ways. As far as I know, all CAAD8 frames were threaded. One way to identify threaded BB models is the ones that came with Shimano cranks are...

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

Cannondale came up with BB30 (non-threaded) in order to lighten up the crank assembly by using a hollow spindle which required a larger bearing outside diameter than would fit in a threaded BB shell. Klein had used press fit bottom brackets previously but they were for standard square taper...

How far have you travelled for a bike?

Friend and I took the train to Denver (900 miles) for Veloswap one year. I came home with lots of parts but no complete bike. I've purchased many bikes in Madison, WI (180 miles) and Chicago area (100-140 miles). Farther than that I resort to shipping or an enabler. My orange XR800 came from...

    CAAD differences

Yes it would be a project. Lots of differences especially in the MTBs, as there were so many model specific frame designs. The road frames are a bit simpler but you still have touring, CX, and time trial designs in addition to standard road. I have examples of most of the RXXX frames from...
