Here's a stem that sold on ebay in November. Not in the best condition...

Could you have someone hand paint the gecko on the stem? In the USA I'd bet a good pin-stripe artist could do it but I don't know if they are as common in Germany.

What threads are bad, cantilever posts? Is the fork moving in the headset tube?

Cannondale usually sized to top of seat tube minus one inch. So that sounds like a 20" but doesn't look that big to me.

22" preferred but I could probably ride a 20". I'm in NW IL.

I have that same frame here but wasn't aware of the gecko.

It seems to me that Cannondale didn't sell many of the hybrids until more recently. I've been looking for an SH or H frame in my size for several years. They don't seem to exist locally.

I'd agree that Cannondale sent you a current CAAD9 to replace your CAAD8.

That R1000 was a super deal. People ask close to what you paid for the saddle.

That's encouraging. Doesn't prove it's an '84 but at least it's not dated in 1985. Are the wheels original? The freewheel looks to be a SunTour. Pull the wheel and see if the freewheel is a New Winner.

I don't know how to tell which year from the serial number. The main difference I see between the two years is the 1984 bike came with a SunTour freewheel and the 1985 with a twisted tooth Shimano. Of course that's one of the most likely components to have been changed but that bike doesn't...

Thanks for the photos. I haven't owned one of those cranks and have never seen one up close. That sharp edge and small radius between the arm and the "hub" is a logical place for a stress crack.

You might get by for riding purposes with a Shimano or Sugino left arm. Where is the crack?

What rear derailleur does it have? I know Shimano made some that were reverse pull but I don't remember what models.

I hope that you got it sorted out. There are so many different brand specific bottom brackets these days. Some brands have cranks that have the same spindle diameter on both sides for one crank model, and different diameters for another model of crank. I have an FSA crank coming from eBay and...

Check the serial numbers page. Your serial number checks out as: 6 = 126 mm rear spacing, 56 = 56 cm frame, 0989 = September 1989 production, 0095 = the 95th frame produced in that month.
