I spent Friday through Sunday at the 40th anniversary reunion of my car's Indy 500 win. Missed the flyover but it's always impressive. Had good chats with former team members who own Cannondales.

Could you post a close up photo of the paint in sunlight? I have a couple of frames here that I could use to replace the stolen 1989 bike I owned. I was thinking that I would just paint it straight black, but what you found sounds like a good option.

I don't know what those characters relate to, other than MD is the size.

I'm wondering if someone could have replaced the original shifters with Shimano compatible ones. I don't know if there's a way to ID them. SunTour thumb shifters exist.

My guess is a 2010 model made in 2009. The 2009 USA catalog shows only Rize 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 with the 1 and 2 being carbon. All the photos show One, Two, etc. on the side of the top tube. The 2010 catalog I have shows 5 RZ One Forty models with the 1 and 2 being carbon. Interesting that...

I'm not sure that the yellow frame on eBay is actually a 1992 model. The first catalog to show a track frame was 1993. There were surely some built late in 1992 but for the 1993 model year. Serial number isn't shown or posted in the listing.

I'm not sure about the freehub swap. I'd guess that the Sante hub was 126 mm spaced, so you might need a longer axle to swap to an 8 speed freehub. I have NOS 7 and 8 speed DA Uniglide cassettes somewhere but I think they have kind of odd tooth counts, possibly 13-19. Also have a bunch of odd...

That's surprising. I thought that DA always got the innovations first. DA was 7 speed SIS in 1987 according to the Cannondale catalog. So DA must have been the first Shimano 7 speed indexed group, or equal first with Sante. There was no Sante equipped Cannondale in 1987 so it makes the two...

Looking at the catalogs, it appears that the original track frame design was last made in 1995. I believe it was also the last Cannondale with SunTour components. As far as I can tell, they didn't make another track bike until the 2003 CAAD5.

I was just guessing about 1987 Sante. According to the Cannondale catalog, Dura Ace was still using a freewheel in 1987, so assumed Sante would be the same. Perhaps the term "cassette" hadn't come into use yet and DA actually had a freehub.

Been a long time since I saw NOS Sante. I don't have many Shimano catalogs but I'm guessing that Sante was only made for two years. I'm guessing it was 6 speed with a freewheel hub in 1987 and came with a 7 speed freehub in 1988.

Earlier Cannondale made a track frameset. I think early to mid 1990s, at least as late as 1994. I've seen one or two for sale but don't remember the details. It took a quill stem and I doubt that it was drilled for a front brake.

My guess is that the same fork was used on both models. You might check with Mendon Cyclesmith and see if he has the heavy rider parts.
