I've owned 5 older Cannondale CX frames and a 2011 CAADX. I much prefer the geometry of the CAADX to the older frames. Versatile frame that can be used for fast road rides to light touring.

There's always a chance that a dealer could have switched components around between bikes in stock to get a customer what he wanted.

Did you measure from the edge of the cup, essentially from the bottom of the head tube if in a frame? I'm running 38 mm Schwalbe Big Bens on another XS800 with about 10 mm clearance to the fork, which seems adequate.

Thanks for the photos. The XS800 will primarily be used on mixed surface road rides in good weather. While I'd prefer a slightly wider knobby tire, I could make do with a 30 mm commuter type tire. Lots to consider here as I would need to build a disc brake wheel and buy a rotor and caliper...

I would have to weigh them all again but I'm guessing that my 1995 M900 is my lightest MTB. Catalog says 22.4 lbs. but with tire changes, rack and accessories it's around 24 lbs.

I'd agree on the max heart rate. Guessing I could easily top 200 minus age. Wouldn't be surprised to top it by 50 BPM.

Seems an odd place for the fork to fail. I would have expected it to be much closer to the crown of the fork. If the lower bearing was really sloppy it might have contributed to the failure.

28" has never been commonly used as a designation in the USA but has been used in Europe to refer to 700C (622 mm ISO) tires. Not sure why as most traditional road tire diameters are closer to 27" than 28". There were also 28" rims used in Holland, UK, India, Sweden and China that were 635 mm...

My guess is that you will need the spacers as the Cannondale should have a 68 mm shell width.

I only have one Taiwan built Cannondale, a CAADX cyclocross from about 15 years ago. Purchased new as a frameset. It's been a great bike. Disappointing to hear that you've had problems. It's hard to comment without seeing some photos of the issue.

Will be interested to hear what you bought and how well it works. I've never had one that worked consistently. Still have half a dozen or so new ones (ACT brand) that were evidently cheap on eBay because they don't work very well, and I've had Nashbar, Performance, and Polar in the past.

It would be interesting to get a working HRM and see what my rates are these days. According to the 200 bpm minus age rule my max would be 10-20 lower now than I used to average.
