I could buy a new bike but don't have much desire to, mainly because there is always cool used stuff available. If I did it would be a custom frameset. A stainless steel frame from David Kirk, a Crumpton, a steel Weigle or Kvale.

Nice story. The frame looks to be in great shape. I bought my first Cannondale back also, but it returned in poor condition compared to when I sold it. Interesting to hear that your frame had no model number when purchased as a frameset. Will help to explain when folks inquire about bikes...

There is an M500 about that size for sale in Chicago but it's a 1997 model. I will try to remember to keep an eye out, have contacts in Des Moines, Minneapolis and Madison that could help facilitate.

Still surprised at the weight but there are a lot of dense welds on that frame, and steel fasteners at all the pivot points. It looks great. I'd love to try one out some time.

I hope that you have better luck than I have had replacing my 1989 SM800, which was stolen in 1995. I have never seen another one for sale. Might be helpful to give a general location.

Did the Ti eggbeaters just have a Ti spindle or were the springs Ti as well? I have seen broken springs on eggbeaters, which seem to be their weak point.

I've never heard of Point One. I've got several pairs of various Crank Bros. pedals but have never taken the time to change cleats for them on a pair of shoes. Pretty much sticking to Look Delta for road and SPD for MTB, just because both are easy to locate in quantity for little cost.
