I agree. I have such a stock of 8/9/10 speed parts from the 1990-2010 era that I have been able to build and maintain everything I've come across with parts on hand. One of these days I'm going to have to give some modern parts a try.

We really need someone who was with the company at the time to answer these kind of questions. I can only guess. I would think that there might have been some pre-production painting of frames to try out new colors and graphics.

Mechanical function is always a plus. I remember trying several front derailleurs with the Deore 9 shifters on the flat bar build before I got one that worked. I probably didn't have a Deore 9 FD with the right mount and ended up using a Sachs 5000 which worked great. I think MTB frames...

Too bad that the pinkbike listing doesn't show the fork or head tube decals. The head tube decal that you posted was first used on 2000 models. Some questions defy a definitive answer.

It's possible that both the fork and the finish were mid year additions to the CAAD3 bikes. The lack of a model decal points to it being sold as a frameset, or possibly a warranty replacement.

I would say it's a 1999 model with possible mid year changes to the specs. Did the others you have seen have the same fork? Which head tube decal does it have? They changed between 1999 and 2000 models.

It's a lot of work to take good photos of everything. My Cannondales are on 3 levels of the house, the back porch, and at least 4 more buildings from 1-4 miles away.

Great bikes that you can use for any type of road use. Here's a 1986 ST400. I picked it up at a grain elevator about 20 miles away.

I don't remember seeing that paint color before. From your pictures it looks to be a dark grey metallic. I have an older Cannondale mountain bike that is grey metallic but your frame looks much darker. I did look up the 2000 Euro catalog on the wayback machine, but the colors on the road...
