Looking for a clean set of shift boss covers to replace some chewed up plastic OEM covers on an ‘86 SR rebuild project I have going. Either another set of plastic OEM or compatible aftermarket is fine

Links or offers are appreciated!

I didn't know that they were ever plastic, thought they were always die cast. I will have to look at my mid 80s frames. There are a couple of other threads on this subject in the wanted section. I posted a link to an aftermarket set there, but they were out of stock last time I checked.

Yeah unfortunately the ones shown here that came with the frame are some sort of nylon plastic or acrylic. One of the square edges of the boss on the opposite side is chipped away and doesn’t have a solid edge to it anymore (if that makes any sense)

since these are essentially plastic like, Im attempting to restore the damaged one with some crafty epoxy use, then sanding back down to shape. A new set would be most ideal, but so far my searches have come up empty handed to this point. Hopefully this MacGyver fix will work in the meantime

Is there any chance that you could adapt plastic Shimano downtube bosses to your frame? I still don't have a clear idea of what the interface is.

I did read a suggestion of fixing sandpaper around the downtube and using this to shape the “clams” or bosses or whatever. Might have to give that a try sometime if I can locate a fresh set of shimano. I guess I’ll have to keep an eye on ebay for something like this (plastic ones) Hoping my epoxy repair job will hold up in the meantime. I dont really trust myself enough to attempt filing down my metal dura ace clams otherwise.

Really glad Cannondale moved beyond this silly design in the 90s LOLOL. All cannondale’s ive owned sans the caad3 frame always had their own unique proprietary design quirks. Particularly so with my old gemini that had an early lefty fork

I hope that they work. I would still like to see better pictures of the setup that you have, because I've never seen those plastic bosses before.

So quick update... got the flat covers and they worked with the plastic clamps perfectly. Additionally I dont believe the damaged one was so bad that it isn’t going to work correctly. Running dura ace 7400 series 8 speed on here with a 9 speed chain since the high ring comes super close to rubbing the inside of the drop out. It does work though :)

Glad you got it working. I'm using 9 speed chains on all of my 6-9 speed builds these days. They may not work well with the old twisted tooth Shimano cogs though. I don't think I've tried one with them.

Im using a newer Sram 8sp cassette on here with clarks 9sp chain and thankfully it seems to work fine so far
