Serial Number confusion

I have an R400 cannondale that I bought about a year ago to replace a bike that was stolen. I want to learn more about it. I have trying to decipher the serial number but can’t figure it out based on the information cannondale provides about how serial numbers can be used to learn about your bike. The format of the serial number is the following:

FYI:
Numbers and letters are made up but there are numbers where the numbers are and letters where the letters are.

123456AB12345
1ABC1A 12

Note: the “12” should appear farther over to the right under the “45.”

If anyone can help me understand this format, that’d be great. Again, I tried to use the website to determine the year and manufacture date and model number and so forth but they didn’t seem to have a serial number format which matched the one I have.

The serial number is on the underside of the frame where the bottom bracket is, right underneath the bottom bracket. It is a 2002 Cannondale R400.

My 2005 frame has the size at the upper right (as you read it) corner. It's away from the other numbers, by itself just to the outside of the cable guide. The size is the only information in the post 2001 serial numbers outside of (possibly) factory build sheets. Since you know the year and model, most any other information related to the components will be in the catalog - though we need a better scan of it.

Do you know which part of the combination of letters and numbers is the actual serial number itself? I want to register my bike on the cannondale website but when I entered the longest string of alpha-numeric characters (the 6 number 2 letter 5 number thing) it said the serial number was invalid.

Does your frame still have the bar code sticker? The number on there is the one that they probably want. Or perhaps not. I tried it with my 2005 frame and got the same message. Guessing it may only work for Dorel vintage frames.
