New tires for an old bike...

Hi,
I've got this wonderful ST600 recently. It's in the 1990 catalogue and to my surprise it says 27" rims. Erroneously I purchased a set of 28" tyres before which of course didn't fit, but I wondered why. 27" rims are bigger than 28" I found out after some research. It was a pain to get that 28" tyre off the rim after mounting it with brute force..
My question is: is there any proper 27" product on the market? Great would be 28 mm, or even 30 mm wide tyres.

27" is an american/english size from the 70's early 80's. Before the world changes to 700c/28". There is a difference. You will need to find a 27" tire/tube. I used to own a few 27". I sold them all because of the lack of tires/tubes. you could always switch to 700c rims, and longer reach brakes for an every day use.

You need to look at the ETRTO rim size when you look at tires. Depending on where you buy them, 700C tires may be called 700C, 28", or 29". 27" tires are normally called that, even though they are actually larger diameter than 700C. The 700C rim is 622, and the 27" size is 630, so look for those numbers in the description or on the sidewall to be sure.

Contintental, Schwalbe, and Kenda still make 27" tires but the best current tire may be Panaracer Pasela. Here is the 1 1/8" (28 mm) version but they are also made in 1" (25 mm) and 1 1/4" (32 mm).

I'd liked to order the Pasela tyres, but apparently they are hard to get these days, thanks to Covid.
Now I'm trying to get these via my local bike shop.

Now I found a Berlin bike shop that has a pair of 27 x 1 1/4.
Shipping from the US would be much too expensive.

Unfortunately the old bluemels don't fit anymore. Panaracer are more comfortable, but too big. Think Race Blades don't look too bad, but would have preferred the old white ones. What do you think?

I think it looks fine but am a bit surprised that you had to change to the Race Blades. I would have thought a touring frame would have enough clearance for any 27" tire and full fenders.

It's about the height of the tyre not the width unfortunately.. I've tried everything but couldn't make it work.
