- down tube grommet /cable guide for 2016 Synapse Carbon Disc/DI2

Although I don’t believe my bike is a classic just now, Cannondale USA referred me to this site in hopes that a member may have one, know who may, or suggest an alternative.

Apparently this part was year and model specific. I’ve called dozens of shops, visited a few Cannondale shops tried Cannondale Experts and Spares (UK) to no avail.

A bit disconcerting that you can't get a part for a bike that's only 5 years old. Any chance of fabricating one? Post a picture of it. I'm not familiar with the carbon frames so am no help. My only suggestion is to keep checking with other dealers. The old Cannondale used to supply dealers with frame parts kits for things like this, but the present company may not.

Post 2008+ Cannondale sadly is not the same... very sad they referred you here. Basically saying we don't care, go to a fan site...

I agree with BL. do you have a photo so we can storm up ideas? probably a fabrication..

I was very surprised Cannondale had no suggestions other than keep on searching. I went to a dealer today who will contact their rep for their thoughts. I’ve asked Cannondale for a scale drawing, but apparently that’s not available either. If I had that than it’d be a fairly easy to 3-D print the part.

So freehand fab seems the only other option. It’s possible I can join two grommets to make a decent replacement. I’ll post some measurements tomorrow. In the meantime here’s a few pictures. The first two are my current jury rigged setup. The second pair are from the web and gave me an idea of what the grommet looks like.

Thanks Black Lightning! It’s a cable guide, but I’m also hoping to incorporate a cable stop feature as without the cables tend to rattle around the down tube. The tricky part of the fab is that there’s a flattened portion before a flair that the cables actually run thru. Whatever I come up with should be able yo somehow be flexible enough to recess and seal, like the original grommet.

I’ve ordered some Sugaru to see if that is moldable/flexible enough before it sets up to work like a grommet

In that case I would probably just get the housings centered in the opening and shoot the gaps full of black silicone. You should be able to trim the excess up with a razor blade after it cures.

I would also go to a hardware store and look in the automotive section. There are cable guides that might work. Looks like it is basically a rubber gromit. And very sad when Cannondale makes a special part. I would also look on other bikes, maybe trek and spec. See if they have something that will work.

Thanks Brian. I’ll give that a go this week. At this point perhaps I can cobble together two grommets- one that that’s flat to fill the larger opening in the frame and another to use as a cable guide.
I’ve been to countless LBS and nobody had anything that could work. I’ve searched online, bought what I thought might work.

Every ride I go on I’m looking at every bike hoping to see another 2016 Synapse and at least get a good photo of what the piece looks like.
