Hello from New Mexico

Hi everyone. My name is Paul and I live in Las Cruces, NM. Glad to be here.

This is my 1992 Cannondale R400. I have owned this bike for the past 15 years. I bought it from a small bike repair shop that has since gone under. It was the shop owners personal bike. I recently resurrected it and commute to work on it every day.

Welcome Paul. The bike looks pretty amazing.
I used to live in Alamogordo for a long time on and off again during my Air Force career before finally moving to Texas. Not sure I would want to tackle the roads around Las Cruces on something so nice. It's been about 15 years since I have driven the streets of Las Cruces, but they weren't exactly well maintained then, not to mention the horrible traffic. I do wonder how much fun it would be to blast down the mountain from Organ with the road closed. The ride up that highway would take me days from either side of the pass. Lord knows I've done a few miles of "vertical riding" when looking back on my times riding my '92 M700(owned it since it was new) up and down the fire roads and trails of the Organ, Franklin and Sacramento mountains.

Thank you. Yes, the roads aren’t great but I am still commuting to work every day. The weather destroys the asphalt quickly here. If I could go back in time I would have put on some 28s instead of the 25s. There are bike trails that run alongside the canals which are pretty smooth, and peaceful, but they are incomplete so I have to bomb down some side streets on my way to work and cross some busy intersections. What I worry about more is the poor driving skill that is so prevalent here. I’ve had my share of close calls for sure.

I think everyone who rides suffers the curse of inattentive and disrespectful drivers. Like Texas , I am sure you get some crazy looks when people see you riding a bike to commute to work. I know I get a bunch, especially if I am riding a bike with a Lefty fork on it. As if they were something made by space aliens.
