That would be interesting. I used to have a case hardened shotgun. It was almost tiger striped. I think it was an H & R, don't remember what I did with it.

The vision is getting closer to the finish. Some of the final parts are ordered.

Wheels are OEM Cannondale DT Swiss rims and rear hub, with a Lefty. In white of course!
Drivetrain is the Box 2 Prime 9 with the 11-50T cassette. I am so close to the finish line. Frame is all primered, sanded and waiting on some warmer weather so the 2K white base coat and clear can cure properly. Only need a few odd and ends, chainring, disc rotor, and other frame bolts and I am done. Then it's on to the fun job of servicing all my other bikes. I just SO love cleaning and lubing bearings, adding sealant to the bikes with tubeless tires, ... yeah fun stuff.

What size chainring are you going to run? I've yet to try a 1X setup or even a double on a MTB.
I run 32T on all my 1x setups with the exception of a 34T oval I have but isn't currently installed on anything now. It was on the F600 until I got the GRX 2x installed on it. I've found that when riding my bikes with 3x setups I spent most of my time riding on the middle chainring which is 32T, so that what I stick with.

Most of the newer Cannondale MTBs are equipped with 34T chainrings.

I was thinking more about the high and low gear ratios compared to a traditional 22/32/42 and 11-30 setup. Most of MTB rides involve some pavement riding, although I don't know how much time I spend in the 42/11 combination. Working from the low gear combination, 22/30 is roughly equal to 36/50.

To be honest, the #1 reason I like to use 1x setup is that it's a whole lot more simple. The gear ratios aren't radically improved. Cable routing is simplified as well, beyond that there is nothing wrong with 2 or 3x systems.

Despite the heat and long hours at work, I mangaged to finally get around to applying the final topcoat of paint and start adding decals before clear coat.

That looks fantastic! You’re hired!
As crazy as it sounds, it's not difficult to do. However, it is stressful because painting really tweaks me "it's not perfect" button worse than working on aircraft ever did.
What I see as a flaw, both my brother and sister-in-law couldn't even find, so I am overthinking it

It was too hot in my shed to properly work and get things done, but I managed to get a few more finishing touches wrapped up. Plus a little bonus Cannondale logo appearing where it never was before.20260802_181650.jpg20260802_181903.jpg20260802_181931.jpg20260802_182107.jpg20260802_181727.jpg

You can still see some of the little scratches and gouges that were in the frame when I got it a four years ago. It's come a long way into the bike I wanted it to be in the beginning, but it's almost there.

Bad luck today, while attempting to bleed the Avid Juicy Ultimate brakes today, both levers were sticky. Tore the levers down and found both pistons stuck in the bores with dried and crusty fluid. I will try to see if I can get brake cleaner to disolve the crustiness. If I can't make them work, I have the backup plan of reusing the Magura Trail Sport set I have from a previous build on the F600. I really hope that I can free up the pistons without damaging them since I would really like to use the white lever and calipers.

I’m sure you already know this but proceed with caution with brake cleaner and seals/o-rings as they may not be compatible. The seals may swell or melt.

My one disc brake bike (08 F3) I have the pistons were seized after not being used for 5+ years. The seals were also toast. There were no rebuild kits available. Like anything bike related that requires seals/o-rings they become obsolete in a few years. I ended up having to buy a new Shimano setup that used mineral oil instead of DOT 3 fluid(nasty stuff).

Thankfully, the seals are still available for the brakes. I already rebuilt both calipers with OEM rebuild kits. The only parts that aren't available are the pistons themselves and the bite point adjustment wheels. For the time being, I am just going to take the easy way for the time being and reuse the set of Magura brakes I already have. I can live with the fact the calipers and lever bodies aren't white like I wanted them. The bonus with the Magura's are mineral oil based and not DOT 5.1 like the Avid/SRAM brakes
