1998 T1000

A very nice looking tropic green T1000. The top tube cable guides are all broken off though. No bar end shifters. And the original brakes were Magura hydraulic. It’s probably a good thing those are gone considering the age of the bike.

The seller states it’s a 24 inch frame. But according to the catalog it is either a 23 or 25 inch as 24 wasn’t listed. Like @JohnnyD my size and I like it but it’s out of my price range.

The Magura HS 66 and HS 77 drop bar brakes were and are pretty robust but they are pure unobtainium in modern days. The don't make replacement parts for the levers either, so unless they levers were in perfect working order it would be impossible to rebuild them. After the early 2000's Magura focused on the flat bar versions the HS11,22, and 33. The were the choice of early trials riders for the incredible power over traditional rim brake designs. The one's (HS 33R's)I have are on par with most mid level tier disc brakes as far as stopping power. I feel they would have been overkill on a touring bike if the early ones were even half as powerful.

You are also right on the price.. That would hurt the wallet for sure. Granted it's a incredible looking bike as it sits right now. Only things I would change would to be to ditch the toe clips and level out the rear rack and just ride the bejesus out of it.

Compared to my 25" 1999 T1000, me thinks this is the 23" CAAD2 touring frame (with the 24" / 60.96cm seat tube length to top). Beyond the low-profile 1990s cantilever brakes (not Maguras), I notice several other swap-outs from the 1998 spec: the rims are ??? (not the Sun CR-17), the shifters are RSX brifters (not bar-ends), the CODA crank arms and stem are black (not silver), and the tires are knobby (not the Continental Top Touring 700x35c... probably to be expected). I had never seen this approach of eliminating rear fender stays by attaching the fender directly to the rear rack. Oh, how badly I wanted the 1998 in that lovely Tropic Green with gold letters... but when the deposit was paid in later 1998, the 1998s were gone and they shipped me a 1999 instead. Life is good.
