Hi First time post, I picked this bike up at a pawn shop near my work in Gilbert, AZ. I didn't realize when i bought it how old this bike actually was, it's in fantastic condition. I thought maybe some of the components have been updated, I noticed the shifters relocated to stem. original sr2000s seem to have shifters mounted on the downtube. I see the shimano 600 equipment is still in place. bike works great, im happy with it so far. They had this bike up for $250. I offered em $180 and they took it real quick. After doing my research, I think I got a pretty good deal. What do you think this bike might be worth? Do you suggest any upgrades or mods? This is gonna be my main transportation for the next lil bit. Thanks!

Edit: not dura ace components, its shimano 600. The frame is 54.5cm

Assuming it is a 1989 model, I think it's an SR800. That was the Ultegra 600 bike, the SR2000 was Dura Ace. I purchased a mint teal SR800 a few years back for $250, thought it was a great buy at the time. Vintage bike market is pretty slack now though. That hardly matters for a bike that is going to get used. You won't find anything remotely comparable new for $180, and what you can get for triple that probably won't be as reliable. For a daily rider you might want to replace the stem. Sheldon Brown considered those Modolo stems unsafe. There's a picture of a broken one here:

I left the Modolo stem on my bike as it's extremely low mileage and I never ride it.

I would move the shifters back to the down tube. Bike will look nicer and shift better without the extra cable housing. Hopefully the original shifters were moved to the stem, not some crappy friction models. If you need the originals I probably have a pair.

My sn is 654098901xx located on the bottom chainstay if im reading this right then it seems to be the (version 2) sn. Im not sure what the original shifters that came with the bike were but mine dont appear to be shimano, i included a pic. imho i sort of like having them up on the stem tho. Probably right about it being an SR800, I looked at the product catalog for 89 and the sr2000 looked the most similar, but looking more closely i see the breakdown of models and their components.

Those appear to be SunRace shifters. I assume they are friction front and rear. Shimano probably made a clamp on stem mount for indexed shifters at the time, so you could probably mount 105, Ultegra, or RX100 7 speed shifters with the proper clamp if you prefer indexed shifting. You could also use bar end or STI shifters.

Your bike is likely a 1990 model based on the the September 1989 production date. In 1990 a red road frame with Ultegra translates to a Crit frame SR800.
