    54cm Crest Cannondale

Nice to see this. I wasn't aware that the Crest frames were sold to the public as they don't show in the catalogs. Must have been the first team replica Cannondales? I'd be interested if it were 58 cm or larger.

1989 Black Lightning, not so lightning right now

It's looking better. I'm surprised at the large areas of paint loss - that was fairly common on older Cannondales but I wouldn't have expected it on a 1989 model. My first Cannondale was a 1989 mountain bike with the same black and gold paint. I had almost 8000 miles on it when it was stolen...

1989 Black Lightning, not so lightning right now

It would be interesting to see production figures for every model produced. Lacking that, we have to judge rarity based on what we see - and that is probably highly influenced by what our interests are, and where we live.

1989 Black Lightning, not so lightning right now

They are the most common of the late 80s/early 90s road models that had special paint dedicated to a given component manufacturer. The Black Lightning was always SunTour. There was also a blue/white bike that came with Campagnolo Athena, and a yellow/black bike that had a full Mavic group...

    1998 Killer V on Craigslist!!!

Here's another small KV style bike: 1998 F700. The seller will often take offers less than the asking price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cannondale-F700-CAD2-Mountain-Bike-17-Shimano-Deore-XT-8-Speed-Mavic/313386516805?hash=item48f74ac145:g:Zd0AAOSwEvZgBf7F

1989 Black Lightning, not so lightning right now

It's been very cold here the past two weeks. Low tonight of -24 and high tomorrow of -17. I just came to get warmed up after moving snow with the tractor before heading back out to saw some firewood. I did find a couple of Edge rear derailleurs here, unfortunately neither is black.

1989 Black Lightning, not so lightning right now

Nice find. I would probably take it apart, clean everything and touch up the frame, and put it back together with the original parts that are still in decent condition. It shouldn't be hard to find replacements for any of the original components that are needed, with the crank being the...

    Poorly Polished

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. I have no idea about the heat treatment relative to the best place in the production process to snag a frame to take home in the lunch box.

    Poorly Polished

I have never seen welds left unfinished. Wonder if the frame went out the door for some reason before it was finished.

    Prophet 26/27.5 Mullet Conversion?

I don't have any insight. Interested to know what the motivation is for the changes.

XS "killer V-type" frames vs. Killer V frames

It's hard to generalize about different years. In 1995 the 2.8 and 3.8 frames were both offered in 14" (16"/16.2" to top of seat tube), while the smallest KV size was 15" (16.7" to top of seat tube). The 14" 3.8 was KV style, while the 14" 2.8 was not. In 1996 the CAAD3 M500 and M900 in 14"...

XS "killer V-type" frames vs. Killer V frames

What years are we talking about? The only thing I would be able to do is to look at the catalogs and compare specs and geometry.

    Storing a bicycle collection

Hanging them from a ceiling is probably the most space efficient way. I have hooks in the floor joists in my basement that allow me to hang bikes vertically. Another way would be a long rod suspended from the ceiling with S hooks to hang the bikes on. That would allow adjusting them as close...

    Wanted Club Roost I-Beam stem

The Ringle is a nice stem and fits the era. There's a big annual bike swap meet in Madison, WI that I try to attend, but it's been postponed this year until at least March. Held by the Brazen Dropouts cycling team, it's one of the largest swaps in the USA and the best place outside of eBay to...

    Wanted Club Roost I-Beam stem

Guessing that's going to be tough to find. Do you want the Club Roost because it was what you had on the bike that was stolen? This would go nicely with the Manitou fork, but the price is nearly 3X the 1994 retail price...
