The Beast frame starts in the 3.0 era, but yours is worthy predecessor. I believe 1991 was the first year that "Beast of the East" was used. I think the BB height is the same as your frame, but your TT has less slope. Interesting build with the drop bar and Campagnolo Ergo levers.

I think your original shock can still be salvaged. Does sound like the threads may be galled. If that's the case, probably the best thing to do is to cut the nut off. That will allow you to clean the shock threads up without damaging them beyond what damage you now have. Of course that will...

Looking at the 1996 catalog I see that the 16" hybrid frame was KV style. Stock tires were 38s, so perhaps you can go a bit larger.

That frame is a new one for me. I don't remember seeing a KV/DV hybrid frame. Do you know what year it is? I can tell you that most Cannondale road frames will fit 28s. Guessing that most hybrids would fit 38s or so.

The fork that chumaman linked is a good option. While the early MTBs had lugged Tange forks, by 1988 they were all threaded unicrowns. I might have something similar in the basement, will have to check. Was 6.75" the length you need for threaded?
