Nice project. If 1988, that would have been SunTour Sprint originally. The black Dura Ace calipers are new to me, very nice. I may have some black Sprint derailleurs on the shelf.

The black ones are plastic. Earlier painted ones may have been AL. Bike looks great.

The plastic pins that expand the part that fits inside the top tube may have vibrated out. You might try a substitute of some suitable plastic, welding rod, perhaps even a round wooden toothpick.

My '87 has a bit of fine metallic in the factory finish. Guessing it's in the clearcoat but don't know for sure. I'd run the question by some good painters: Joe Bell, Keith Anderson, Allan Wanta, CycleArt, etc.

I did find some bags in the 1989 catalog that have the rectangular logo like yours, so perhaps they are older than I thought. They weren't offered in black in 1989 though. I can't see the round reflector on them.

Tough one. I think most of the 80s bags had round reflectors. The triangular logo was used at least through 1994. By 1998 they had the C logo as on the head tubes of frames. Guessing yours are mid to late 1990s.

Never got to Westwood, closest we raced was Seattle International, now known as Pacific Raceways. I bought the Rockys on closeout. They are mostly hybrid types, but good for gravel and commuting. Bet they didn't have trouble finding people to weld even at $7.

I know the frames were originally heat treated after welding, but it may not be absolutely necessary for a repair. We didn't heat treat much AL on the race cars, but there wasn't much structural stuff made from welded AL.

Looks to be original except for perhaps the saddle. Catalog says Avocet but it wasn't unusual for bikes to come through with parts that differed from the catalog spec.

I wish the manufacturers didn't market saddles as men's or women's. One of my favorite saddles is the Bontrager Affinity WSD. I've ridden men's and women's versions but prefer the WSD. They seem to have a bit softer padding in the sit bone area which is a big help to me. Wonder how many guys...

You may just need more miles to get used to the saddle and position, or it could be totally wrong for you. But most everyone complains about the saddle interface when starting out.

Paint is original but nothing else. I bought it as a frame and fork on eBay. The touring bike won't be a lot slower than a comparable vintage road frame. There are some things you could do to make it faster, mostly lighter parts, pedals, wheels and tires. I wouldn't get carried away though...
