Super V identification

Hello,

Can anyone help me to identify the exact model and year of this bike. I know it’s a Super V circa 1999-2003 but I can’t seem to match the serial number to anything I’ve found online.

thanks

I can't help you with the serial number but i think that frame is much younger , 1993 super V appears for the first time
I believe there is a logical trace to that serial number sequence

Thanks, I’ll look into older super Vs. I bought around 2005 but I don’t know the history of the bike before then. It needs a bit of refurbishment and would be good to know exactly what it is.

bike is a custom piece....a lot has changed ,the swing arm has been changed with younger model.
But this I know looking at a place you sanded, a primer is from early pieces if not the first 1993....95-96 is quite different and the color often tends to peel due to the oxidation of aluminum, I have not seen this in any earlier cannondale...and this is the first thing I mentioned in the mode of knocking serial and its sequence ... it's certainly a very early piece ;)

Didn't all the Super Vs made prior to 1996 have the high swing arm pivot location? I was going to guess the OP has a 1996 frame based on the swing arm.

If the OP is going to strip the paint, you might try to get the black off first with lacquer thinner and try to see what decals are on the frame. That's going to be the best bet for model ID I think.

definitely you're right :) Super V is far from my expertise ... I'm not a fan of full sus bikeso_O
but this for a primer I'm sure ... I've seen too many scaled paint 96' because it's my Top Year
on older models is ocher primer and is much more solid paint....96' is more gray
it is much easier to take off the paint on them ( with paint remover ;))

I'm not sure that I've owned a 1996 bike, certainly haven't stripped one. I have a 1995 M900 that I purchased new, but I don't think I own a 1996 or 1997 bike. Have several in the 1998-2004 range. The paint on them has held up better than my 80s Cannondales by far.

Thanks all,

I think the original owner painted it black, I’ve uploaded another photo, it looks like the original colour may have been red.

I think I’ll get some paint thinner and do a larger test patch.

That may be a 1997 or later swing arm. 1997 arms have a stiffening web that yours appears to lack. I think yours is a 1998. If you can strip off the side of the right chainstay, look for a Super V SL decal. See the Viper Red Super V 400 and 1000 in the 1998 catalog. If SV SL decal is there, the SV 400 had white, and the SV 1000 had yellow. At least the USA models had those decal colors.....
