i just picked up this 1999 F series and I don’t know how to to interpret the frame code and actual size (it measures 16” center bb to center tt / 18” center bb to top of seat tube

Frame code: 9FMN3GLG (I think I’m reading it correctly)

The frame is KC date, March of 1999 which also matches being the first year of disc mounts, Fatty SL fork, and Afterburner paint…so judging by the catalog this would be an F2000,….but there is no model sticker, and the rear stays have CAAD3 decals, which the F1000/2000/3000 were all CAAD4 going by the 1998/1999/2000 catalogs

My tentative plans are to have Mendon service the Fatty SL, and I’m thinking of converting to 27.5 and 1x10 or 1x11 for a hybrid gravel/XC/campground cruiser

Only old school Cannondale has this info for the full SN. KC is the only info that I have from old school Cannondale:

I have seen before the bottom left LG is Large. But that is not always the case. 99/00 I feel was a screw up years. The motorcycles killed them. However, 99 is my favorite decals and colors!

As for a 27.5. Test the frame 1st. I have a 99 CAAD3. 27.5 does not fit the frame or fork. You can buy spacers on ebay from improve part.

Build it up. 1x10 is a good idea. :)

Thanks, I’ll definitely test the 27.5 before committing, I’ve seen the fork spacers and was curious, otherwise I’ll stick with 26

Very nice frameset. I was told the correct measured frame size as being from centre of BB bracket to where a level top tube would intersect the seat tube.
Sloping top tubes really confuse the measuring process.

Nice handle rubrduk, do you own a big black MACK with a can on the back. ?

In general Cannondale MTB frames were measured in inches from BB center to top of seat tube. 18" was called a large in 1999. Road frames were measured in cm from center to 1" down from the top of the seat tube.
