As a pop quiz, I'm testing my lessons here on decoding the serial number 20041288094
20 inch frame (inches means mtb frame)
04 April
12 12th
88 1988
094 number made that day

Needs tires and lock removed. Bar ends are rusty steel from some bso.

edit: SM500 in blueberry. And I got the serial decode correct.

The rear U-brake is rather strange looking. Like it's made of plastic. Doesn't look good mounted on the flatten seat stays.

I think I need to call one of my friends who lives in Iowa more if gems like this are hiding there.

This is great. Restore it! And with the 89 American flag. Some had those, usually late 88's. Ubrake is original, and you are stuck with it because of the mounts. U-Brakes actually work well, and was used on BMX for a long time. I love it with the Yellow cables and saddle. Excellent pickup. :)

I like the yellow better. That said, on a bike that original I would probably look for some skinwalls. Don't know what's available these days.
