CAAD 3 Team Yellow 60cm - R1000?

Hi All,

Just purchased what I believe to be a 2000 CAAD3 R1000. However, BB shell stamp puts it as a 1998 and there is no top tube sticker confirming that it is an R1000.

I think the groupset and parts suggest it is an R1000. However, any other information would be warmly received to confirm this!

What is the two letter code on the drive side of the cable guide? Looks like IF in the photo, which would make it a June 1997 frame build. Decal style points to a 1999 frame. 1999 was the year that the CAAD designation moved to the seat stays. The Coda hubs first appeared on 2000 models. The Coda 1000 saddle was last seen on 1998 models. My guess is that your bike was built up by a dealer from a frameset late in 1999, or after. I agree that it's essentially a 1999 R1000 (with 2000 model year wheels and an older saddle) even though it lacks the model number and is a non stock color. Just noticed that you are in the UK. We seem to get a lot of these "doesn't match the catalog" bikes from European members. Bike looks great. I wouldn't change a thing.

I think it says JF, not such a great stamp on the first letter!

I’m assuming the barrel adjuster cable stop is non-standard and the right side is the original? Tough to come by these now?

Those are Dura Ace cable adjusters. DA had the lever on the right side for the rear derailleur and the barrel on the left. Ultegra adjusters would have had the grey plastic barrel adjuster on both sides. Some folks like the DA lever adjuster, others prefer the Ultegra. I like the DA because it's easy to move while riding with sweaty fingers.

JA makes the frame fit the details a bit better. There seems to be a fairly wide range of mid-year months when the changeover to the next model year took place. June 1998 at least puts it in the range when frames could have been in production for the 1999 model year.

Thank you. Is it possible to purchase a lever for the left hand side? Or is the adjustment too much with one click at a time for the front mech? Like you, I like the functionality and appearance of the lever.

I haven't seen a lever on the left side. I'm not sure if the lever from the right will go in the left hand boss without modification. I will try to look around and see if I have one loose somewhere.
