many thanks in advance, really pumped about my first Cannondale and bringing it back to proper condition. I know from the serial number it was built on Dec 12, 1985 so it was a 1986 model year bike. Wondering how one knows if it left the factory a
SR1000
SR900
SR800
SR600/700
Or SR500?
Thanks!

It looks like it may be a 1986 SR400.

I would confirm the parts on it. I go by the color/year. if we think its a 1985/86. The paint looks original, and for 1986 the only white is the SR400. Confirm the parts are the same from the catalog, and there you go.

I dig the all white.

Many thanks Brian, I’m digging the all white look myself. After checking the 86 catalogs it appears the bikes components have been changed so it’s difficult to match up which mode it was.
Sugino GLP crank and Sante rear derailer.

Guessing it is a 1986 SR400 as Brian mentioned. Crank looks right (Assuming DGLP translates to "double" GLP). "Official" names of lots of Sugino cranks had "D" in front of the the model that was printed on the arms. Best example I could find was this DGS, which shows both the model name and what was printed on the arms via Sugino documents.

The Sante bits are definitely a couple of years newer. 2nd group in the Shimano lineup for a couple of years, so there is a market for it.

Do any of the parts match on the frame? These bikes are getting up in years. Parts have worn out and been swapped or upgraded over the years. :)

Headset, stem, seatpost, crank look to be original. Front hub could be the original Miche. RD, shifters, and brakeset are replaced with Sante. Can't see the handlebar, FD, rear hub and rims.

SunTour made the Cyclone group in white. Don't think it came on the SR400, and not sure how many parts of the group were painted. I'm pretty sure I have a front derailleur, maybe a rear. Here's a RD on ebay:
