Hello

Does anyone know if there is a difference between:
- M-series XS-size "killer V-type" frames
- real Killer V frames
of the same year?

No, not talking about MCX (24" bikes). The M500 and some other 26" models were produced in Killer-V type frame configuration in 14" frame size (XS). Other MX00-series models did not offer 14" (XS) frame at all, but sizes started from 16" frame (S). Went through catalogs, and it seems that at least for the year 1996 the XS size M500 in KV frame layout did not spec: 2,5" downtube (2" instead) and butted seat tube (normal instead). So there are internal differences between these same looking frames.

It's hard to generalize about different years. In 1995 the 2.8 and 3.8 frames were both offered in 14" (16"/16.2" to top of seat tube), while the smallest KV size was 15" (16.7" to top of seat tube). The 14" 3.8 was KV style, while the 14" 2.8 was not.

In 1996 the CAAD3 M500 and M900 in 14" size had the KV style frame and a seat tube length of 16". The CAAD2 14" frames were not KV style and had a seat tube length of 13.9". The KV500 and KV900 in size small had 16.5" seat tubes.

Not sure what "same looking" frame you are comparing the 14" 1996 M500 to. As far as I can tell, the M500/M900 was the only 14" KV style frame made that year.
