I was recently given this touring bike and am looking for more information on it. I can't find indication of the model on the bike, aside from a "Sports Series" decal. The serial number is 23091587143, so I imagine it's an 1987 model. It's made in USA. It has Superbe brakes, Suntour Cyclone M-II derailleur, sakae handlebars. The odd thing to me is that it has bar end shifters, which I don't see in catalogs from this period, so I have to assume it's been modified. I think it's a 1988 ST400. Lots of variation from catalog spec on components but the original owner could have specified changes upon the original purchase, and 30 years have gone by since then.

Half step gearing with a granny. Big rings are usually something like 45/50, small ring 26 or 28.
