Another great deal local to me is this hybrid. It’s only $95 and it is in the biggest size offered for 1997. The brake set doesn’t seem to match the catalog. No surprise there.

Aside from the obvious; ride it. What can one do to a hybrid? What are they good at? Drop bars? Gravel bike?

Well, the frame looks great. Lightly used for sure. If it were my bike I'd put a set of trekking bars on it and take it out on a weekend tour. It's too small a frame for you to be comfortable with drop bars.
I had that same crank on my 1997 T500. I thought it was rather cheap so I replaced it quickly. The STX derailleur looks good, so do the wheels and brakes.

Ha! I thought that you already bought the bike and that was your dog. I was also going to ask you why you were stealing Stop signs, but I refrained.
I didn’t see that, good eye! Reminds of a bike parts ad I looked at last year that had a bong off to the side.

edit: now that I’ve looked at the pictures again, I can’t help but see the sign. Odd that it never appeared to me before. Functional fixedness on the bike or something.

Have you thought about stripping the bike for parts? For a cheap price you could put those wheels on your 1990 ST400. I think that would be an upgrade, plus you would be getting away from those 27" tires.

IdahoBrett's Bike Shop got real crowded over the winter and I threw the proverbial group of darts at the dart board this spring to see what would go (listed several bikes for sale). The ST400 went to a good home. A young fella.
