SOLD Hand Polished Cannondale R900 2.8 frameset size 58

Item sold.
**I am new here but have been lurking for at least a couple of years. If anyone needs any references, feel free to contact me.**
*Also I can only attach 10 photos, if you need more I can send via email or however you want.*

Stunning shiny finish achieved thru hand polishing for hours.
9/10 condition or may be even 10/10 as the frame was already in mint condition before polishing. The original color was red and I have kept the factory "hand made in USA" sticker as it is while stripping so you can see the red color there.
Cannondale decal on downtube can be easily removed.
Includes rare Control Tech 28.6mm quill stem because the fork steerer is oversized 1 1/2 unit.
Also includes following -
Control Tech 25.6mm handlebar
Cannondale C3 seatpost
Derailleur hangar (straight)
Shimano RS501 bottom bracket that only has 60 miles on it.
Last photo shows how stunning the full bike looks.
The frame takes 28c tires.
Asking $150 local pickup in Seattle/Renton WA area.

Nice work. If I didn't already have several 2.8 frames I'd be interested. I also have an MX Leader that belonged to a teammate of Axle Merckx. Same colors but red is on top and blue on the bottom.

The MX is 25th Anniversary edition, 99th of 100 :) I am thinking of selling it and going for 2025 Colnago Master. That one has always been on my wish list but never got around it!

Ooooh… Nice work!!

I’m more than tempted but unfortunately I’m on the East Coast. Please do let me know if you’d consider shipping it via USPS and how much it would cost to ship to Montreal, Canada.

I’m in the process of restoring my own and essentially finished. However, the main issue with my frameset has always been size. It’s rideable but also a size too big for me. As a result I’d love to swap it out for a 58 cm frame which would be more appropriate.

Might have to wait a little longer.

I have shipped quite a few frames but all within CONUS. Bikeflights is usually the cheapest by a fair bit of a margin compared to directly using USPS or others. Send me your exact zip code so that I can look up and give you an estimate - I would like to move this, I have couple of frames staring at me waiting to be built and possibly stripped and polished too!

Thanks for your reply.

Shipping to Canada is much the same as shipping within the US. USPS/Canada Post usually works best cross border as it avoids heavy brokerage fees levied by private companies (UPS being the worst). I’d definitely recommend packing it without the fork mounted. The box shouldn’t exceed the size limit for standard post.

My postal code (same as zip in the US) is H4A 2S9 in Montreal.

My main concern is the fork steerer and frame headtube spec. You mentioned a 1-1/2” steerer but I’m not sure when Cannondale might have gone to that spec. My frame is a 1994 model year and used their MTB spec 1-1/4” steerer SubOne Aluminum fork. I want to use a carbon 1-1/8” fork that I have with an associated CK Devolution headset. It all works nicely on my frame but it has a 37 mm internal diameter for the external bearing cups. If your frame passes a 1-1/2” steerer fork, it likely has a larger headtube yet.

I’ve attached a photo showing the fork and the CK Devo headset I’m now using. I had to run a longer reach brake caliper (Velo Orange) but am also now able to run 30C tires. Possibly 32C. Also running 2x SRAM Force. I expect the completed bike to weight ~7.5 kg down from 9.3 kg of the original spec. Hoping it will make a great climbing rig.

Would you be able to post a picture of your BB shell underside with the serial number so we can check the model year and corresponding spec?

Thanks again.

1 1/8 inch straight. Sorry. 31.8mm OD of the fork steerer. The ID is 28.6mm, attached the Control Tech quill stem diameter pic too.

Thanks for the additional photos. It appears it might be an October 1992 model frame (0581092 stands for 130 mm rear spacing, 58 cm frame made on 10/1992). I guess it’s likely that the HS EC’s are also for 37 mm ID but without checking them it’s hard to know for sure.

Please let me know what the PO might charge for shipping so as to not bother you with this hassle before knowing whether it’s doable.

Ran some calculations on USPS using a wheelset box that I have handy and shipping was $107. The frameset box would be slightly bigger than this so I am guessing it to be $120 or more. BikeFlights is out as the "brokerage" fees are crazy $172 + whatever actual shipping.

Nice Frame, awfull "decals".

To bring the light into the fork issue - it's a unique 1 1/4 Fork. Cannondale called it "Sub 1".

Not too hard to find 1 1/4 quill stems for that, headsets are a little bit more pain in the ass but managable. Better than 1 1/4 ahead combination.

Best 10 $ solution is buying 1 1/4 -->1 1/8 adapter cups, start using the usual 1 1/8 standart and forgetting the whole issue
