Cannondale XS800

Finally found one of my grail bikes! An XS800 that appears to hardly have been ridden. The previous owner upgraded the drivetrain and hubs to Ultegra, the headshok works, Onza brakes and even the Avocet Cross tires hold air and aren’t cracked. Still deciding whether to ride it or hang it on the wall…

The colors are nice, but dirty quickly and then look like doo doo afterwards. A nice high quality black leather bar tape would looks fantastic. If you could find some that has the holes punched in the leather with red underneath that would look ok. Can't go wrong with classic black leather though!

Me, I'd do a nice brown leather saddle and bar tape combo if it were mine.

Looks great and it's the first year for them I think. I'd certainly ride it some but not so much as to put much wear on it. I rode my 2001 XS Friday.

Ride it. Bought the same new, fall of 98. Came with IRC Cross 38mm. Treated it like a hardtail niner / gravel bike before they existed. Turn it upside down and run in some fork boost lube after sidestepping the lower boot. Have a 44-34 crank on mine. My pics are in the cyclocross gallery. Most awesome bike. Congrats.

I had never heard of ForkBoost, so I looked it up, it looks to be something I should add to the workbench. Thanks.

Great stuff. Definitely a boost. Used on my Cannondale and an old, neglected Manitou, badly in need of service, that was given to me.
