Thanks for the analysis. I have been away .... now trying to find a way to edit my ad and change '23' to '21' and say I am willing to trade it on a 25" frame touring bike....not familiar enough with the website to know where to go for edits....any assistance would be much appreciated!

For Sale 1991 Cannondale ST600 'time capsule' for sale to good home ' @$400 obo, Victoria BC area

I purchased this recently but, alas, it is too small for me. Frame is 23 inches Looks like new...Very little use, all original except seat was replaced. Grip Shift incapable of engaging middle chain ring, so needs attention.

    Hello from Michigan!

Tremendous transformation ! You haven't left any stone unturned! I am taking inspiration for the restoration of the 1991 ST600 I just bought. How long did the seat take to break in?

Black lightning, I should point out that I ended up with a 23 inch frame after being re-measured and finding out that I had shrunk 2 inches in height since last bike fitting....so the 'large' or 23 inch turned out, by Cannondale's reckoning, to be the correct frame for my dimensions. Now to get...

Blacklightning, thanks for this. What a relief to hear that a Shimano 14-34 freewheel will fit! Sounds like the solution....! I don't hold out much hope that I will find a Grip Shift...so understand will definitely have to swap shifters out ( and middle chain ring, which is missing some teeth)...

Black lightning, thanks - but I seem to have run into a problem. My wheels are Sun/Mistral and Freewheel& both derailleurs are SunTour. The bike is essentially an unused time capsule. Mark at Rivendell tells me that I must seek out a freewheel to replace the 30 tooth cog or face replacing...

Letsbike, thank you for your posts, particularly identifying this as a 23" frame. Given that is identified, it can be dealt with as you stated. It is a bit of a disappointment that the frame turns out to be 23" instead of 25, and I shall just have to see how it can fit. My F1000 is a 23" frame...

Letsbike, Thank you for this. I just made the deal on the bicycle today and will check out the rear derailleur once I actually have it in hand. Here are a few photos from the seller's ad - Cheers!

letsbike, Just saw this post of yours, for which I thank you. Since the cassette would give a lower gear than the 13-32, I am changing my thought about the latter in favour of the 11-32. What derailler would you suggest to go up to a 34?

Thanks, Willmill. I plan to order the 13-32 IRD as soon as I have the bike. JohnnyD, thank you for sharing your experience and observations. I am going with the IRD 13-32 cassette as soon as I take possession of the bike. I will seek out saddle height and position advice from some knowledgeable...
