Lost in colour.

Hey guys and girls. Looking for some of ya’ll opinions on a solid colour for this R800 frame that I recently stripped. Ultimately I’ll be selling this bike if it turns out as expected so thought it would be cool to see what you all prefer.

I’ve actually got the decals in black. And already purchased pewter silver paint, (which to be fair probably isn’t much different from the bare frame ) but. Having second thoughts on that colour now so need a little help.

As it’s bare and I only get one chance I would be grateful for some options. .

Just for some insight I’ve added a pic of the wheelset. (Silver/black was the original idea)

Thx for all the ideas in advance.

Eddy Merckx and I vote Orange.
What type of components are you looking to build the bike up with?

I couldn’t agree more. But I also have an orange R1000 waiting to be built lol.

Sorry yes I should have said. I’ll be using Campy mirage group set that came off a cinelli. So parts are in Silver.

Sorry about the orange. I’d have said I had one but didn’t think to do so.

This is the Orange one. I’ll be keeping this one full original with complete Ultegra G/S. Just haven’t got the space to build another one up yet.

Blue is my favorite color. So I vote blue.

For black decals it would have to be on the lighter side of blue to show up well.

A metallic light blue would be neat. I don’t know how to paint but I think I’ve read that painting a metallic is difficult.

Interesting. Ok thnx for that idea. I’ll keep that in mind. The original was actually a flat blue. I was going with the same blue but could only get black decals. So it didn’t work.

I believe this is out of the 1995 catalog. I like the Evergreen Frost Metallic.

Speed Yellow or Team Yellow would be my vote.

Mango is nice, too, but too close to the Orange, I think.

Agree with the yellow. I think yellow, red or orange are the best colours for the years. However I do have a yellow R700 that I’ve just put together so want something different for this one. Good call though.

Oh this is very cool. Some really nice colours there. The greens is nice. If I had silver decals that would have been the No 1 choice for sure. Just not sure it would go well with the black note though.

That is one thing about color. You have an idea about what it will look like, but the end result is always a (pleasant) surprise.
Thanks for asking us to share in your build. I'm looking forward to the "surprise."

Hm. How about a powder blue? That would be light enough that the black decals wouldn't get lost in the paint.

Of course, there's always white or Rocket Silver. Those are pretty nondescript, though, and you could just leave the frame raw aluminium rather than silver. That wouldn't look bad with the black decals and a good clearcoat.

Powder blue eh. That could look pretty cool. I wonder if it might be to personal though. Ideally I’m putting this together to sell so I’d like to find a kinda colour that hits the majority of us. .

I did consider raw aluminum but after the sand blasting the bare frame isn’t exactly perfect. First time I’ve stripped a cannondale so wasn’t sure what to expect. Seems from the factory they don’t pay to much attention to creating such a good finish as it’ll be painted.

I could definitely go with a few different grits of sandpaper to smooth it out then polish and clear coat. But to be honest that’s quite a bit of work. Not really fancying all that if I’m being honest.

I’ve been thinking of maybe doing the fork a different colour to the frame to possibly. I did look at used clear carbon forks. But it’s just going to push the price up to a point beyond sellable.

I wish there was a tool that could let you paint your bike colour online so you could see what it looks like lol.

These aren't high resolution, but maybe something might pop out to you.

Ah. Amazing. Thank you for the effort. The red is the immediate winner lol. But it’s to common. That light blue looks pretty good actually. As does the green in the top. Then again, I’m now leaning back towards the silver ‍♂️. Ai ai ai. I guess it would be easy if it were for myself I’d just go with red or orange . But I need to remember this one is for sale so I have to keep reminding myself not to be to personal.

I actually have a pearl white Caad3 Seaco that used to be red/yellow which is my personal one. Very personal as you can see by the colour scheme . Could only find Caad5 decals back then.

Cool man. Interesting. Blue seems to be the winning colour so far. Weather isnt great here so I still have probably a couple or few weeks before getting to paint. .

This is the only set I could get which were anything closer to what it came with. Obviously I won’t be using the R500 one. But I couldn’t get R800 decals.
