Pretty sure that's a 1994 M500. The year and month of manufacture should be a two letter code, likely above the 00779, sometimes obscured by cable guide. Good entry level hardtail at the time, probably most likely use these days would be commuter. It wouldn't have cost $1000 when new, that was about what an M900 cost in 1995, for a quite a bit nicer bike. Best way to get the most out of it would be to take it apart and sell each component individually on ebay. You might get $100 or so for the frameset, $50 for the wheels, $5-50 for various other parts.

There is an SN above it. What do you think I could get to the bike if I sold it outright that would be fair for me and someone else buying it the bikes in excellent condition. And thank you for replying to me I do appreciate it. I'm just not interested in taking it and parting out.

you could possibly get $100 for this bike but it would probably take a while. I think $50-$75 is more realistic as a complete bike. I paid $80 for this bike which is the same model from a different year but I was interested in the color and the person who I purchased it from was very happy to get $80.

I think it depends somewhat on where you live. I think you could get $150 or perhaps a bit more if you live some place where there are a lot of commuters.
