Rear wheel rebuilt with a decent road hub. Looks good.
found a 9 speed SRAM trigger shifter at the coop.
And I thumbed through the owners manuals for the hub and the bike. I found these in the back of the manual. Pretty clear this is a 2004 model. Right down to the second the label was...
I've been perusing the catalogs from 2000 to 2009.
The Adventure 1000 with the Dual Drive 3x9 looks to be a 1 year only version, 2004.
The LG serial number seems to make it a 2000 frame so I guess that's not right. I can't see them having frame sitting around for 4 years.
Scraped the rubber...

The Vitus frames. When you don't weld, you can use much lighter weight (thinner wall) tubing which will be more flexible. The French stayed with standard tube diameters and short lugs which added to the flex.
IMO the 1930s Caminargent is one of the most beautiful bikes of all time. The art...
Oh yeah, like 10 years before. Cannondale was a bicycle accessory company for 10 years before they started making bikes. And then they jumped in with both feet, spent a lot for a big new factory with laser mitering equipment to speed up production. The first company to mass produce welded...
Not even close. That's trailer version 2 above.
They were in business long before they started making bikes. I bought and still have their very first model. Shown at the bike shows in 1982 or so. I was the first to race on one in Iowa. Got lots of leery looks at first. I took mine to a...
Cassette stuck on a 3 speed internally geared hub. Generally works okay. I have one on a Cannondale that is grinding in 2 of 3 hub gears so it probably has a broken tooth in a planet gear and the busted off bit is stuck in the gears. But that's the only 1 I've ever seen with trouble. I've...
I'm going to the Chief Blackhawk Vintage Motorcycle Swap meet in Davenport 8/31/2023 and I can bring this along. It's a fun event and there are many bicycles there.
Bike dismantled. Frame and other broken or worn out parts sent to recycle.

I went out in the dark with a flashlight to look and I found those tiny pop rivets in the chain stays (painted over by the camo) and holes in the seat tube where the seat stays meet up. So it was vented. Still no valid serial number.
Bike fully dismantled and parts ready to go.
Some more observations.
cracked stays. My wife asked why the water didn't go back out the way it came in. I tried to show her the vent holes in the stays (there were none!), and the openings into the bottom bracket shell (there were none!). Hum...
Hubs are Specialized bolt on. The rear sounds kinda rumbly. Rims are Araya RM17 black. Light wheels overall.
Suntour freewheel.
I'll be going to the quad cities some time this week so I can drop off the parts at Wright Cycles as before.
